Jack Mallers, Scarcity and His Lawyers: News Surge, May 2025

The News Surge host plays two Jack Mallers clips, one on Bitcoin scarcity and one ending a Q&A to keep his lawyers happy, and reads both as a sign of change.

Recorded · Mining Disrupt News Surge · 9 min session

The Mining Disrupt News Surge for Monday, May 5, 2025 ran just under ten minutes and was built around one clip. The host had been watching a live stream by Jack Mallers, the head of Strike, and he promised viewers early on that something Mallers said near the end of it was a clue to the monetary change he believes is under way. He held the clip back until the last few minutes and, in between, read a handful of posts that pointed the same direction.

He opened with the expo. Mining Disrupt was heading to the Irving Convention Center in the Dallas area for November 11 to 13, its eighth expo in as many years, and he said the plan was to hold them roughly every nine months. He called Texas the de facto center of US mining, and with the show about six months out he expected it to be the biggest one yet. He also gave the usual note that the episode was for entertainment and education, not financial advice.

Posts From the Week

The first item was a long thread by Bob Burnett, Boomer BTC, of Barefoot Mining, which the host called a walkthrough of the OP_RETURN argument. He did not read it on air. He said it was too long to read aloud, linked it below the video and told anyone who wanted to know why OP_RETURN matters to read it themselves.

The second was a post from Tim Kotzman, whom he described as one of the MSTR True North guys. Kotzman had asked his followers how they were preparing for May 2025 and answered first: by 5 p.m. the next day he would have every Bitcoin Treasuries podcast episode for the month recorded and scheduled. The host said the post matched something he had been feeling for a while.

Of course, I can record and publish more, but I think we're about to accelerate.

Later he read a post from Andrew, at AP_Abacus, telling readers they did not own enough Bitcoin for what was coming and to reject TradFi models. The host read the post's line about a wave like you've never seen and its row of colored emoji as a sign that the market was in what Kotzman had called accelerate mode.

The Scarcity Line

Before the main clip he played a shorter one, cued from about the 41 minute mark of the same stream, in which Mallers set out his thesis.

You can make more of anything except Bitcoin.

Mallers went on to say that everything else in the world is, in theory, abundant, and that the aim is to store time, energy, capital and labor in something that no one else can make more of. The host said the clip showed that Mallers understands Bitcoin. His own gloss was about time: if the thing you save in can be changed by other people, those people can in effect take your time and energy. Bitcoin, he said, is not something more of can be dug up or made.

Talking to the Lawyers

The clip he had been building to came from the end of the stream. Mallers told viewers he was talking to the team behind the scenes about the questions they had sent in for the Q&A.

the reality is my lawyers, I'm just trying to figure out the best way I can still, you know, answer these

Mallers then said he would end the session for now, so as to keep his lawyers happy, and take the questions the following week.

The host asked viewers whether they had caught it. His point was not what Mallers said about any specific question; Mallers did not say what the questions were. It was that he said out loud why he was stopping. Most people, he said, have watched a CEO wrap up a stream or deliver an apology that felt forced. This one did not.

Nothing about what I just witnessed felt fake.

He stressed the size of the companies involved. Mallers, he said, is at the head of Strike and of a company that would start with control of 42,000 Bitcoin, the newly announced Twenty One Capital, and he put both in the range of multimillion- and in some cases billion-dollar companies.

He is right there telling you, I'm talking to my lawyers.

He contrasted it with the more familiar ending, where an executive says there are a lot of great questions but it is time to wrap up, and the audience is left wondering what was left unsaid. Hearing Mallers spell it out, he said, made the obvious plain: of course someone in that position has a chat channel open with counsel while he is live. To the host, that openness is what is different now. People can tell when someone is being genuine, and he took the clip as a sign of the change he had been describing all episode.

Where He Left It

He closed by saying big changes were coming, that people like Mallers are at the front of them, and that viewers who can see what is happening day to day are well placed. For newcomers he pointed back to the Dallas expo, which he described as a place for people in the business to meet each other and for people outside it to learn from them.

The episode makes no case about what Mallers' lawyers advised or why; the host did not say. What he offered was a reading of tone, set beside a week of posts about scarcity and speed.

When this episode was published, Bitcoin traded at $94,071. On October 26, 2026 it was $80,251.
