EDGE Data Solutions' Daniel Wong on Immersion Cooling and Holding

In a Mining Disrupt Miami 2022 interview, EDGE Data Solutions' co-founder said miners mine for the future price, and infrastructure lags the hardware.

Recorded · Mining Disrupt Miami 2022 · 3 min session

Daniel Wong, co-founder and president of EDGE Data Solutions, sat down for a short interview at Mining Disrupt Miami 2022, recorded July 26–28, 2022, just after his panel. In about three minutes he described what his company sells, how he came to immersion cooling, and the advice he gives people who are new to mining.

A total solution provider

Wong described EDGE Data Solutions as a total solution provider, covering everything from power down to the miners. The aim, he said, is to partner with an operator through the whole project and help it reach the future state it wants.

EDGE Data Solutions is a total solution provider.

At the conference, the company was looking for miners interested in immersion cooling, or miners having problems with their air cooling, who want to be more profitable and more renewable. He said EDGE works with certain partners to deliver those services and is always looking for more.

We're looking for miners that are interested in immersion cooling or maybe have some issues with their air cooling solutions.

Why immersion cooling

Wong said he got into mining in 2016, running operations for publicly traded companies that wanted to start mining. That work is where he saw the gap.

And through that is how we saw the inefficiencies and the ways that the infrastructure was lagging behind the technology.

Daniel Wong · 1:59

So that's how we started to look at immersion cooling as a better way to service our clients.

Advice for new miners

Asked what he would tell newcomers, Wong started with understanding what mining is.

You're not mining for today's prices.

Daniel Wong · 2:27

You're mining for the future of Bitcoin or whatever coin it may be.

Daniel Wong · 2:29

Miners, he said, are mining for the future of Bitcoin, or of whatever coin they mine. That means believing in the coin and being well funded enough not to sell coins at the wrong times, so an operator can ride out the swings and sell where it believes the value is.

At the end of the day, you're mining a commodity.

Daniel Wong · 2:44

He compared it to holding a stock in the capital markets: a commodity the miner believes will increase in value. He also told attendees to do their homework and understand what matters to them before choosing a partner.

The community

Wong opened the interview on the conference itself. He described Mining Disrupt as a tight-knit community where everyone knows everybody, and where miners from back in the day and people brand new to mining are equally willing to share information and work together. He closed by thanking the organizers for letting him speak on the panel and for letting EDGE showcase its solution.

Bitcoin traded at $21,268 on July 26, 2022, when the interview was recorded, and at $81,859 on October 20, 2026. Mining Disrupt returns March 22–24, 2027, in Irving, Texas.
